Cassis Bistro is an unassuming little space located in the Casel Marché, a new boutique organic food market on 17th AVE. Although a small place, the flavours they serve are big and authentic. From the 1664 on tap to the perfect steak frites this meal had us longing to book a couple of tickets back to Paris.
The Kronenbourg 1664 is a light and refreshing beer that went great with our meal and would be awesome to enjoy on their sunny patio in a few months. As a further mark of their commitment to an authentic bistro experience, the beer was on tap; and as we all know, beer on tap just tastes so much better.
For our lunch we shared the steak frites and seafood cassoulet. The steak was perfectly grilled and had a nice creamy fat cap. The meat itself like that found in France had a chewier texture than the ultra tender and marbled cuts we have here in Alberta but was no less flavourful. The frites were also excellently fried and went great with the creamy hollandaise sauce on the side.
